![]() For some people, the drone was not hovering very stably. It added most of the missing features and fixed a lot of the bugs that people were complaining about. Now, this was a pretty big firmware update. It improved Return-to-Home performance, obstacle avoidance performance, hover stability, and a few other little bug fixes at the bottom. If you have the Cine version, it did reduce noise when recording in ProRes. It gave us the ability to shoot RAW photos only, so we could go into the settings and select RAW only. It also added MasterShots and Hyperlapses. That was actually a pretty significant addition, and one that I was pretty excited about because I do use FocusTrack quite a bit. First of all, FocusTrack was added, which includes Point of Interest, Spotlight, and tracking. Let's go ahead and take a look at what was added. Now, this didn't include everything some of the features like panoramas and quick shots didn't get added until the January firmware update. This firmware update added most of the missing features that were not available at launch. However, if we go to the next firmware update, DJI surprised everybody by releasing this large firmware update in December and not January, as they originally stated. We got this small firmware update, which added a few minor things: the ability to unlock Geo zones, some various shooting resolutions, the ability to shoot in 1080 at 30 frames per second when in Explorer mode, D-Log mode (which is the flat color profile), and it increased the max flight speed when using APAS 5.0. Quite often, products like this have firmware waiting when they're first launched, and the Mavic 3 was no different. ![]() You can see here it says November 5th, 2021. The first firmware update we got for the Mavic 3 was on the launch date. First firmware update for the Mavic 3 on launch day So, let's go ahead and take a look at the Mavic 3 and all the different firmware updates since it was launched. When we open it up, it lists all the different firmware updates that have been added since the drone was first released. You can see here we have something called the DJI Mavic 3 release notes in a PDF format. You can also get all the release notes for the different aircraft and products that they sell. On this page, it lists all the different downloads and things that are available for the DJI Mavic 3, such as software, companion apps, LUTs, and manuals. In the case of the Mavic 3, what we're going to do is click on “Camera Drones,” select the Mavic 3, click on “Learn More,” and then, at the top, click on “Downloads.” Now, for those of you who aren't aware, you can actually go to the DJI website and get a complete listing of all the firmware updates and additions that have been added to most of their products. Of course, I would have liked all the features on day one, but it was nice that we were able to get the drone early and start testing it out to see what it was capable of. Myself, I was kind of neutral on the issue. Some people thought they should have waited until the drone was ready before releasing it, while others didn't care because they did warn us.
