* Changing the network adaptor from 'public' network settings (high privacy) to 'work' network (allows more trusted connections) * Trying the net use command on an XP VM gives a different error (error 5, access denied) even though the same user:pass on the same machine allows access via firefox * Changing registry key \HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WebClient\Parameters\BasicAuthLevel to 0, 1 or 2 has no effect (was previously on 1, needed to do this to get webdav working in the first place) * Changing secpol Lan Manager Authentication Level to any level has no effect * Trying to map a new drive using the menu option in Explorer fails with the same 'Network name cannot be found' error * Reverted policies that were changed around Remote Desktop timeouts (this was what I was doing the next day when I found the backups had failed) * Nothing in the Application or System logs that looks suspicious * sfc /scannow - ended with no faults found * can be seen in IE8 with the above user:pass (all above done with administrator-enabled CMD) Net use w: \\edmund\share PASSWORD /user:vacri (works) Net use * \\edmund\share PASSWORD /user:vacri (works on a different computer's share) Net use w: PASSWORD /user:vacri (this webdav also does not resolve in IE8) Net use w: "" PASSWORD /user:vacri (fails w/67) Net use w: PASSWORD /user:vacri (fails w/67) Net use * PASSWORD /user:vacri (fails w/67) I've also tried 'net use * \\and the error changes to 'error 53 - network path not found' What's confusing is that the same site with the same credentials can be successfully viewed in IE on the same machine, and the base domain can be pinged. Running that manually now just gives me an 'error 67 - network name not found'. The linux server had been rebuilt, but everyone else using the webdav drive (win, lin, osx) all report zero problems after the rebuild. The webdav drive for a month or two and the backups suddenly stopped working last week. I have a script running a backup to a different (linux) server via WebDAV as that is the only server share that's backed-up offsite. I've got a Server 2008 Foundation Edition server that's running some financial software.
